About Me

Jackie Scott is highly skilled in design, patternmaking, draping, and sewing construction. She worked in the fashion industry for 20+ years. For 17 seasons she created costumes for the Denver Center for Performing Arts, and she taught sewing and fashion at Emily Griffith Technical College and the Art Student's League of Denver part-time for 10 years.

As a draping instructor at the college level, I taught students the foundational and advanced techniques of manipulating fabric on a dress form to develop original patterns, construct silhouette, and understand the relationship between cloth and the human body. My courses covered draping, patternmaking, costuming, and sewing, guiding students. I emphasized both technical precision and creative intuition, preparing students for professional work in costume, fashion, and theatrical design.

I now offer private and group classes in sewing and design, working with students one on one and in small group settings to build skills at their own pace. Whether guiding a beginner through their first project or helping an experienced maker refine their technique, I tailor each lesson to the individual student's goals and creative vision.

Costume Technician (Draper)

As a costume technician, I built and realized designers' visions through draping, a process of manipulating fabric directly on a dress form or living body to sculpt three-dimensional shape, silhouette, and movement. Working with the natural grain, weight, and behavior of each fabric, I pinned and shaped cloth in real time to develop original patterns, refine fit, and achieve fluid designs that responded organically to the human form.

As an instructor at the Art Students League of Denver, I taught a range of classes for both children and adults, covering draping, costuming, and garment construction. I guided students of all ages and skill levels through hands-on creative work, fostering technical skills alongside artistic confidence.
